Saints agree to 5-year deal with top pick Ellis

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis, the New Orleans Saints‘ top draft pick last spring, ended his holdout Tuesday. Ellis, picked seventh overall out of Southern California, agreed to a five-year contract, said Saints general manager Mickey Loomis.

“It’s about time,” said Loomis, who did not disclose financial details because of team policies. “It took a little longer than it should have.”

Loomis said the delays were caused not so much by the total value of the contract, but how it was structured with incentive bonuses, guarantees and annual base pay. Also complicating matters are concerns about the likely expiration of the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement after the 2010 season.

“It’s had an effect on the way these deals are structured, there’s no question about it,” Loomis said.

Ellis, an All-America selection and the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year in 2007, is expected to compete for a starting role immediately.

In 13 games last season for USC, Ellis had 58 tackles, 12 1/2 tackles for losses and 8 1/2 sacks. He also recovered two fumbles and was credited with batting down seven passes.

Coaches said Ellis impressed them in rookie camp and minicamp. However, he’s missed the first 12 practices of training camp.

Loomis said Ellis is expected to arrive Wednesday in time to sign his new contract and practice in the afternoon. That will give him three days of practice before the Saints’ first intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday. The Saints’ first preseason game is Aug. 7 at Arizona.

What should the Federal Reserve Board do about the economy today?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

In your opinion, with the stuff you know about economics, how can the federal reserve board help the economy?

Raise interest rates. Interest rates being lowered have only caused some more problems. They did it because they wanted to avoid crash. Now that a depression/crash won’t occur, they have to deal with the consequence of lowered interest rates. Its inflation…they may need to raise rates to fight it..but they should only raise it a little- raising too much will further our economic staleness (slowness) and make things worse.

I think it is time Americans quit looking to the government for help. If people would QUIT BUYING THINGS especially using CREDIT and BANKS WOULD QUIT SELLING LOANS TO PEOPLE WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY THEM BACK and people started living within their means overall and started saving, when hard times hit they would not have it so bad. It’s called tough love when parents do it and the government needs to do the same-especially with banks and mortgage companies who knew better and did it anyhow and quit bailing them out with your great grandchildren’s taxes.

What is your recipe for crispy fried chicken tenders?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

We’re making chicken tonight, and how we do it is:beat an egg with hot sauce&a little water or milk.dip the chicken in the egg mixture then roll in a flour mixture(flour, salt, pepper, paprika,a bit of cornmeal)then fry it.how do you fix yours?I may want to try something new.

take boneless skinless chicken breasts and slice into strips (long and narrow work best for me)

soak in a combination of eggs, milk, and hot sauce for at least 2 hours

mix flour, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and your favorite seasonings in a big bowl

dredge chicken in flour mixture and refrigerate at least 1 hour

deep fry chicken, in batches, until tenders float to the top and are golden brown….drain on paper towels and add a little salt while still hot

in the meantime…..heat two medium sized pots over medium-low heat

in one pot….melt 1/3 cup butter and 1/2 cup of franks hot wing sauce…keep warm

in the other pot…melt 1/3 cup butter and 1/2 cup bulls eye BBQ sauce…keep warm

when chicken is done frying…toss in either wing sauce or BBQ sauce

yummmy boneless buffalo wings and boneless BBQ wings

I like to soak the chicken in buttermilk over night yummy. I use a standard dry wet dry pattern. I dip the chicken in a dry flour mix, then into the egg mix and then back into the flour mixture and then fry away. I use all kinds of seasoning in my flour mixture it just depends on how I feel that day!

Pregnancy test question?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Does the color of your urine matter when it comes to taking a home pregnancy test? Like, when you drink a lot of water… your urine is more clear. When you don’t drink as much water, your urine is more dark yellow. Does that have any effect on the test? I tested first thing this morning with my urine being more clear than yellow (I drank a few glasses of water earlier in the night, but peed twice before actually going to bed). Does it matter?

Your first morning urine yields the best results for detecting hCG (the hormone present in your urine and blood when pregnant) during very early pregnancy because that’s when you have the highest concentration. The darker your urine, the more concentrated it is but the color of your first morning urine speciment should not affect your results. I hope you receive the results you’re anticipating!

……………

The pregnancy hormone is more concentrated in morning urine but that does not mean that if you drink a lot of water and your urine is more clear, the result will be any different than it is supposed to be. If you’re pregnant, you’re pregnant, besides pregnancy test can detect the slightest trace of the pregnancy hormone so there is no worry about something obstructing the result. I hope you planned for this baby and that you’re pregnant!

Would-be midwife, still read a lot about pregnancy etc

……………..

It doesn’t really matter if you used your first morning urine. During the day though I wouldn’t guzzle a bottle and then go take the test. They recommend doing it first thing in the morning because the hcg has all night to appear. If for some reason you don’t think the test was right, don’t like the answer, or really wonder if you did it wrong retest in a week or so. It is possible that you might have tested too soon, and would have a different result regardless of the color of your urine.

What Season is it in Australia?

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

These are a few questions that have been bugging me for awhile now. i live in the Northern Hemisphere and it’s July and Summer right now. But what month is it in australia?
is it july as well?
and is it winter there right now since it’s in the southern hemisphere?
do they have winter in June-Aug. and Summer in Dec-Feb?
and is there christmas in Summer? and not in winter like ours?

Hi there, I’m from Adelaide, South Australia and yes, it is Winter here. We have Summer (as you said) from December to February, meaning Christmas is in Summer - no white Christmasses here! And as you may or may not know, our Summers are usually very hot, so quite often Christmas day is a warm one!

As for your question asking if it is July over here, it is the same month everywhere in the world - only the time differs depending where you are, not the month.

What does the expiration date on medication mean?

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Is the expiration date on medication just to say when the drug loses potency or does it become dangerous to take it after that point?

Medications, after their expiration date may or may not loose their potency. These meds are tested for a certain period of time and their expiration shows either when they would start loosing the potency or if the testing period is over (usually 3 years). You can still take the med years later, obviously if it is loosing effect get new script.

Anyone know how to extract gold from aqua regia solution?

Since gold is not very easily oxidized, its cation is easily reduced. Adding a base metal such as zinc should precipitate the gold from solution.

How can you fight home sickness?

Monday, July 28th, 2008

I’ll be gone from my home for two days, and then I’ll be moving into a new house! Do you have any tips on how to fight away the home sickness? Oh, I’ll be staying at my grandmas house so yeah her new house creeps me out a little bit…

i kno it sounds corny, but moving is a great time for change!!! maybe u always wanted a different themed room or a bigger house or sumthing. you will miss your old home, but you can adapt and make the best of it! stick with your friends!

……………..

Realize that home is where you are in your own skin, and healthy mind and bodied. Homes are destroyed and people are snatched away by waves in a day, in the middle of the night. If you had no home to return to, how would you fight it’s loss? We are our homes, being healthy inside with the concept that anything outside of us is not us, HOME. It’s what makes us strong within it’s our own walls, our skin. Whether we have a roof over our heads, a particular roof, no matter where we lay our heads to sleep, are in between, coming or going. The only person we never have leave of is ourselves.

…………..

I tell you I moved and had no friends where I went and the dog I got made me feel like I had a friend.

Where can I buy efficient, durable solar cells for my house?

Monday, July 28th, 2008

I’m looking to start a project before the end of the summer, to power one of my kids rooms entirely off of clean energy. I’m starting first with solar cells. Where can i get some big and durable ones to put on the roof? Also if you’re experienced in this field, what problems should i expect to encounter? And what kind of regulator should i hook up to output 120 vAC?

In the automotive section in Canadian Tire. There are 80W solar cells for a hefty $750. Or a 120W solar panel for $1100.

But there is also this site here:

And needless to say, they are not cheap. Home kids starting at $8669.99.

Can a grocery manager give me only 8 hours a week because of my schedule?

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

I work at a local grocery store that is union. I am working 2 jobs and at the grocery store, I let them give me the closing hours since they have enough people during the morning. I gave my manager my hours like 2 months ago. I called him one day to let him know I couldnt work one day that he gave me because on my availibty sheet I request 3 days that I can’t work. the other 4 days are at the grocery store. He was complaining that I was limiting my schedule. He was threating me that he was going to give me only 8 hours a week. In my union’s contract, it states that no part-time worker can work less than 14 hours. Is he allowed to do this, if not, should I contact my union rep?

If in the contract is states that you cannot work less than 14 hours per week, there’s no legal way he can make you work 8 hours per week only.

If he actually gives you a schedule with only 8 hours per week on it, then I would contact your rep. Until then, all he has is empty threats to get you to work more for him.
