I have a 11 week old boxer, I am feeding him eukenuba dry food.

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

It says that because he is 15 lbs he should eat 3 cups of food a day does that seem like to much? The dog poops like 7 xs a day

Yeah, Eukanuba is not a good food. That’s why they make you feed so much food. You need way more Eukanuba for your dog to even get some nutrition. Good quality food and they eat far less.. My adult Dobermans eat 3 1/2 cups a day of Canidae.. Imagine how much Eukanuba you would have to feed an adult Doberman.. Probably about 12 cups.

Good food they eat less, they poop less, and it’s cheaper in the end cause you are feeding far less. Check out a good quality food and you won’t be feeding your dog so much. This is why Dogs on Eukanuba are so fat, they have to over eat in order to get their nutrition and it’s out of inferior quality ingredients.

Three cups a day is fine for a growing puppy. But that’s a lot of poo! Usually, that means that he’s not eating the healthiest dog food. I feed one dog Wellness and the other gets Innova. Both only poo once, maybe twice a day. The better the food, the less the poo.

What kind of things should I do to keep my Great Dane away from the cats?

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

My Great Dance dog is really, really large. What should I do to keep him away from my really small cats?

It’s hard, because the Great Dane always goes to the cats to make them mad and makes them hiss and freak out. Should I keep them in the basement with food and a litterbox and once and a while go down there to play with them and pet them? Should I keep them in my room?

Could I possibly take turns, one day with the cats out of the room, and one day with the dog out of the room? That should be okay. Any other suggestions?

every time he gets to close to them jump up clap your hands yell no back and do that every time he he get close to them then if he walks away from them when you tell him no back then tell him good boy

How do I get my horse to Slow down?

Monday, July 14th, 2008

He does great at a trot, he keeps his head down for the most part and is pretty slow. but wen he lopes he just goes all out. i try to do the same tenquine i did with his trot (dressage thing i think, seesaw reins till he slows and drops/collects) but its not working, and circles seem to only make him wat to go faster…
wat to to??!

Do one reign stops. Let your horse go into a lope and immediately pull one reign to stop him. Do this several times. Then let him lope further. If he goes faster than you want, that is without leg pressure, stop him again. He will eventually get the message to not go faster that you want him to.

………..

actually, it is not a dressage technique to “see-saw” the reins.. it has been a common misconception. at least this is what i have been taught by some international trainers.. A great article in last months, (June, i beleive) is from Clinton Anderson, it is called something to the effect of, “how to bring a high-headed horse down”.. it will work wonders for you horse. it is all about lateral and vertical flexion with your horse. not see-sawing, or bumping on the reins.
i beleive you can find the article in your local tack store or on equisearch.com under HorseandRider

What is the best way to teach a dog to fetch?

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

my shephard does not like to play with any ball. when i throw the ball, she sniffs around at it and then comes running back for the treat. she doesn’t like tuggies, or squeekies. is there any hope????

Get your dog to enjoy tugging. Start from scratch : use a paper bag with some pieces of liverwurst or other high-value treat and snake it around on the floor for your dog to get. The paper bag will rip right open, and your dog will get a big reward for playing with you. Do this a few times, then move to using an old sock with holes in it (still very easy for your dog to get a big payoff for interacting with you). Do these things for a while and be sure to never shove stuff into your dog’s face - always present the sock or tuggy toy by pulling it away from your dog. Make him chase it and even get the rewards while moving.
2. So now you have a dog who will play with you and looks forward to playing. This is the time to introduce the ball (you might want to get a ball on a string like this : http://cleanrun.com/moreinfo.cfm?Product… )
If you need to roll the toy in liverwurst to get the dog interested in it, so be it. Keep the toy close to your body and make it very fun and rewarding to play close to you. When it’s time to start throwing the ball, keep it very close to your body. Use a part of your house that has a corner and throw the ball into the corner - the dog will be most likely to turn right around and return it to you.

Maybe that is because he is a Shephard and not a Retriever. Try throwing ten balls out and see if he tries to herd them all togeather ;)

—–

do what i did throw something and tell him fetch and walk over to it and show him and walk back and give him a treat then trow it again but not far and tell him fetch and when he goes over to it then tell her good and give her a treat and keep working that way but she might be the type who just hates fetch. try agility training or go on jogs every morning and get her to go with you!

4.      Damzels

5.      female betta are nice, you can find them in pretty colors if you look hard, and lots of little guys like neons and tetras are pretty easy

6.      I don’t know much about fish. But one thing I do know is get fish that can mix together. They say three of the same.

7.      The cute little mini sharks.

8.      cichlids are mean dont get them!!!! i have some danio’s platty’s those are the ones i have had the best luck with. but make sure to get a succker fish or and algi eater also… snails aren’t that great.

Do u find cats scary?

Saturday, December 1st, 2007
  1. No I don’t and you wouldn’t either if you gave them a chance.
  2. OMG yes! and cat ppl get insulted when i get scared of their cats

as to why? i dunno something in the eyes, the way they strut…the whole superstition thing about them…..both my siblings claim they saw a black cat in their room when they awoke in the mid of the night and everything in the house was locked…both were on different occasions

  3. I definitely find cats creepy. I couldn’t tell you exactly why, but I think it is because they remind me of evil magic( you know black cats and witches).
  4. I love cats! Had cats all my life! Never had a dog. Cats are so cool!
  5. I find them intriguing! You never know what is going on in that head. And their eyes are just stunning! It is kinda creepy when they jump up and do the crazy cat run without any provocation, but hell, it’s really entertaining after the initial startle.
  6. No I like cats but some can look scary if they have no ears or something or those hairless cats, those are creepy.
  7. shave it.
  8. No not at all….but I know someone who is…..lol

Why is my 8 year old cat?

Thursday, October 25th, 2007
  1. He is marking his territory. Or take him to the vet just to make sure. But I’m pretty sure he is just marking his territory
  2. Well it COULD be just an aging cat thing, however urinary problems are common with male cats. He could have a bladder infection, or worse- kidney or bladder stones. I lost a male cat to bladder stones. Peeing around the house was the first sign of any problem, and by then it was too late. Some other health problems like diabetes and tumors can cause this too. If I were you, I’d take him to the vet right away and make sure he’s alright.
  3. some one has come inside your house with another cat scent on their shoes, cats have a good nose, so your cat smells it and trys to out spray it with it’s pee!!Try cleaning some areas with citiral oil.
  4. I won’t waste time with a lengthy answer, but.. this site here:
    http://www.hdw-inc.com/litterbox.htm
Has plenty of information on your problem, just scroll down a little to “URINE MARKING AND SPRAYING” and read up on that.
  5. Inappropriate elimination is often a symptom of urinary tract infection. The cat begins to associate the pain he experiences while peeing with the litter box, so goes elsewhere. He might also be trying to get your attention.

So your first step is to have the cat evaluated by a veterinarian. If you notice he is straining a lot but not producing much (may seem constipated), then it is urgent enough to find an emergency vet after hours. Male cats sometimes get blocked up, and then it is only a matter of hours before it is too late. If he is not completely blocked up, then it can wait until morning - but make sure to get him in to see the vet tomorrow.

Here is a link to a good article on how to solve litter box problems, in case it’s not a medical issue http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/our_pe…

  6. He is marking his territory.
  7. is he spraying or urinating?

the first thing that comes to my mind, especially with an older cat is kidney issues or diabetes. it could also be a urinary tract infection. if this is a new thing for him to do, a trip to the vets is a good idea. if its not a medical issue they can advise you on what to do for behavior problems.

how are is appetite and water intake?

When should puppies be taken away from their mother?

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Puppies shouldn’t leave Mom until they’re at least eight weeks of age, and there are actually some good reasons why veterinarians recommend this.

Dogs, just like people, develop social skills as babies. Puppies pick up some critical information during those first two months, from interactions with their littermates and with their mother. They learn appropriate responses and boundaries in play. It makes for easier to train and more socialable dog in most instances.

Another reason is the overall health of the dog. At eight weeks of age, our puppies have, through the course of nursing, acquired whats called “maternally derived antibodies”. This is a fancy way of saying they’ve obtained superior immune systems and immune responses to some common infectious diseases through a substance in Mom’s milk called colostrum. It’s more likely that they’ll respond well to vaccinations after they’re sent off to their new homes.

Good for you, investigating before you rehome your new pups. I’m sure you’ve got some great families lined up - what an exciting time! Have fun these next few weeks, and take lots of pictures!
