Does having the TV on, bring a higher electricity bill?

Having a TV can make a difference in your electricity bill. However, if it is gas or propane powered then it does not affect the bill at all. A small amount of power (5-10 watts) is used by the ‘instant on’ feature. It is the ‘turn on’ that pulls 200-250 watts and this really impacts your electric bill. TVs consume power in standby mode too, though, it is a tiny fraction of what they draw when they are actually on. If the TV is switched on most of the time it would consume power worth $2.75 to $8.00 a month approximately.
