Hey there, so I have a recipe that was my dad’s chicken noodle soup recipe, and i’m going to make it tonight, now I have 3 cans of pre-made broth, I’m assuming each has two cups in it, since the recipe calls for 6 cups, will this be enough broth for it?
Can I use baby carrots insteads of big carrots?
As far as the chicken goes, I’ve never cooked meat before, I have some ‘ready to cook’ chicken breast, do I cook the meat before hand or cook it in the broth?
Depending on can size each can may not be two cups, a 16 oz can is equal to two cups. If you have less than this figure out the differance and add that much in water, the fact that you are going to be cooking the chicken with the soup will make it pretty much the same.
You can use baby carrots, I assume you’re cutting them up anyway and all baby carrots are is pre peeled and sized regular carrots.
For the chicken peices you have two options, you can cut them up and brown them in a skillet on the stovetop with a little cooking spray or oil on medium to high heat, and then put them in the soup or just cut them up and put them in the soup. The browning will add a nice flavour, don’t be afraid to under cook the chicken peices if you decide to brown them, they will finish cooking the rest of the way through in the soup pot.

Six cups of broth sounds perfect. Yes, you can use baby carrots, but you might want to slice them up a bit - small enough so that you can spoon them up with the soup. Cook the chicken breast in a a small amount of broth, (or water) let it cool and cut it into bite-sized pieces before adding it to the soup. If you decide to use that chicken-cooking liquid in the soup, strain out the cloudy bits first.
